Sport Relief

The children came to school dressed in sports clothes in aid of Sports Relief. We all ran around our track as many times as we could. By donating £1 and buying wristbands we have raised £240.50!!

Penathlon – Beacon of Light, Sunderland

Our fabulous Penathlon team competed against schools from County Durham at the Beacon of Light in Sunderland. They came 1st!! Well done to you all. We are the champions!

Christmas Jumper Day 2019

We came to school in our Christmas jumpers to support Save the Children. We had a parade in assembly and the teachers judged our outfits. There were some wonderful designs and a lot of time had been spent making such creative jumpers! It was a difficult decision but 3 winners were picked from each year group, they are pictured above. Well done to you all! We had a fab day and raised over £100 for Save the Children.

Autumn Disco

The children impressed us with their costumes and dancing at our Autumn disco.

Toft Hill Book Day

We had our own book day at school. The children completed a Cluedo Treasure Hunt, made gingerbread men, bookmarks, bridges for the 3 Billy Goats Gruff and danced in giraffe masks because ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’.

Decorated egg winners

The children had lots of fun decorating eggs this week in school. There were lots of wonderful, well thought out designs. All of the entries were marvelous but we picked 1st, 2nd and 3rd from each class which not not easy!

Easter Craft Club

The children really enjoyed making Easter hats and decorating Easter themed crafts.

Adam Bushnell visit

Adam Bushnell, a local author, story teller and historian visited our school. He led a whole school assembly, the children played different character’s. They had so much fun! He then worked with our Year 2 and Year 4 classes. Year 2 traveled back in time to 1666 when the Great Fire of London took place and looked at the event from a person from that time. Year 4 learned about Roman Gladiators. They had the opportunity to dress up and use gladiator weapons.

Battle PT Day

Rob Proud took us outside to participate in a range of different activities.  He set up obstacle courses, tug of war competitions and a lot of different exercises.  All of this meant that we ended up very muddy but had a great time!

Christmas Jumper Day Winners

Our Christmas Jumper Day this year raised £123.00 for Save the Children. There were prizes for the most imaginative jumper.

Christmas Craft Club

The children made decorations and a variety of  Christmas items, baubles, table decorations, fridge magnets etc. Our  school hall was very glittery after!

Flat Stan First Aid Training

This week Years 3 and 4 took part in first aid training with Flat Stan. They learned DRABC and what to do if someone stopped breathing. The children practised resuscitating Stan and putting each other in the recovery position.

M&M Productions – The Secret Garden

M&M Productions visited school this week and performed The Secret Garden. The children really enjoyed the show.

Summer Disco

Wow!! What a wonderful  disco. The weather was so lovely that we decided to hold it outside. The children had so much fun and it was much cooler than holding it in our hall. Lets hope we can do the same next year.

Easter Egg decorating

The children decorated eggs in school this week. There were some amazing creations! Here are our winners.

Sport Relief

In recent months we have had an all weather sports track installed on our field. To coincide with Sport Relief the children and family members took part in a ‘Morning Mile’ each day. It has proved to be such a success that we hope to continue this after our Easter break.

We managed to raise £171.50 for Sports Relief by wearing our own sporty clothes and competing in a variety themed activities throughout the day.

Y1/Y2 Dance at Bishop Barrington

Our Y1/Y2 children took part in a dance festival at Bishop Barrington. They had a lovely time & really enjoyed themselves.

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day a little later than usual due to the snow last week. All of the children looked amazing & a lot of thought and hard work had gone in to their costumes. It was very difficult to choose but pictured below are the winners from each year group.

The children enjoyed a variety of themed activities throughout the day and took part in a treasure hunt around school.

Educate and Celebrate Great Rainbow Bake Off

Lara & Joshua were accompanied by Mrs Bolton, Mrs Bedford and Mr Way to the finals of the Educate and Celebrate Great Rainbow Bake Off in London!! They qualified by making a cake in cookery club representing the Educate and Celebrate values.
The finals were a very tense day for all! the bakers in London and everyone left at Toft Hill waiting for news. We were thrilled when we heard that our Hadrian’s Wall themed cake had won the 1st prize!

Christmas Jumper Day 2017

Well done to all of our children for wearing Christmas jumpers in aid of the NSPCC. We had a competition for the best and above are this years winners.

Food Bank

With the help of family and friends, our School Council collected an astonishing amount of food to donate to the food bank. Through the generosity and kindness of our families we are able to help other local people in need.

Silverband Falconry

Silverband Falconry came into school and showed off some of his birds in a whole school assembly. He flew three birds in assembly; a European Eagle Owl, a Barn Owl and a Harris Hawk.

The European Eagle Owl was HUGE and VERY noisy! It flew from post to post and had an enormous wing span.

The Barn Owl followed him everywhere and we were really quiet to see if we could hear it fly. It was so quiet we didn’t hear it coming!

The Harris Hawk scared us as it flew over our heads unexpectantly.

The whole school enjoyed the visit and look forward to welcoming him back again next year.

Adam Bushnell

On Friday 17th November author Adam Bushnell visited our class to help us plan a story. He brought in lots of different items to help us come up with ideas we could use. We are going to start writing our stories next week.

Y3 trip to Roseberry Topping

As part of their geography work Y3 visited Roseberry Topping. They climbed right to the top and when there drew some wonderful landscape pictures.

Flat Stan First Aid Training

Year 4 & year 5 took part in ‘Flat Stan First Aid Training’. They were hands on learning CPR and practiced using bandages. We think we may have some potential medics in school!

Mad Hatters Tea Party

Instead of our usual school lunch, today we had a Mad Hatters Tea Party! The children made hats at home and came to school wearing them. There were some amazing designs. We all had a really fun time and were.

Professor Brainstorm

We had a visit from a very special professor. He came to help us with our science work. He did some amazing experiments and was very clever and very funny!!

 

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day by dressing as our favourite literary character and we decorated our classroom doors as our favourite book covers. What do you think?

Chris Tomlinson’s visit

Chris Tomlinson, the Olympic long jumper visited our school. Children and staff all took part in a series of circuit activities to promote sport and a healthy lifestyle. The children had been raising money through sponsorship so that we can buy some new P.E equipment. Chris finished off his visit with an assembly and a question and answer session. We all had a really fun day and were very happy to meet Chris.

Mr Way’s Trip to Tanzania

This summer, while some of us laid by the pool or built sandcastles on the beach Mr Way visited Tanzania in Africa. He climbed Mount Kilimanjaro while he was there!

The Osiligi Warriors

On Monday we had a visit from the Olisligi Warriors, a masaai tribe. They showed us their very colourful costumes and performed singing and dancing the hall, with the help of Mr Dickinson and some of our children!

Silverband Falconry Display

On Friday 1st May 2015 Silverband Falconry visited Year 2 to learn about birds of prey.

Solar Eclipse

On Friday 20th March the whole school went out onto the yard to experience the solar eclipse. As it got darker, it got colder and quieter and we noticed that the birds had stopped flying and singing! Mr Richardson (a parent of a past pupil) took these photographs for us to use in school. Thank you.
